Walter J. Suggs grew up in Eastern North Carolina in the town of Kinston. He began playing the saxophone in church at the age of 12. Upon entering high school, he continued to grow as a saxophonist under the tutelage of Charles Richberg by performing in concert, marching, and jazz bands and in All District Concert band. “Walt JAI” began taking private lessons at the age of sixteen and his love for his craft continued to grow through private lessons and local performances. Walt Jai attended North Carolina Central University where he received a B.A. Degree in music education. He continued to take private lessons at NCCU with Dr. Ira Wiggins and participated in the jazz combo and jazz ensemble as lead alto saxophonist for three years. His love for the jazz whether smooth, bebop or big band continued to become stronger. Walter dreamed of fusing his love for God, Gospel music and Jazz music. His vision was to create music that would feel good as smooth jazz but have the heart and soul of the love of Christ. After college, Walter Suggs began teaching middle and high school band in the state of North and South Carolina. After 12 years of teaching, he furthered his music career at Winthrop University and received his Masters in Music Education degree in 2009. While at Winthrop, Walter studied privately with Tim Gordon to continue developing his gift. The Music on his first album is a mixture of different styles of music that bless the name of Jesus Christ from the heart of “Walt JAI.” Every original melody written was birthed out of the trials and tribulations that God brought him out of. God is so WORTHY to be praised. If God PROMISED it, He will deliver it. It may not be when you want him to deliver; it will be in his timing or his SEASON for your life. God gives us PEACE that surpasses all understanding. When your life is turning up side down and you do not know what to do, just pray, call on the name of Jesus and WAIT on him to answer you. These are just a few titles of songs on his first album, “Worthy Is The Lamb” that will bless your soul. |
